Veterans Hospitality Room
Honoring Those Who Served
Welcome to the Veterans Hospitality Room at Friendly Hands Food Bank — Northwestern Connecticut’s only dedicated hospitality space created specifically for veterans. Opened on April 1, 2026, this welcoming community room was designed to provide a comfortable place for Connecticut veterans to gather, relax, connect, and access valuable resources in a respectful and supportive environment.
For more than 35 years, Friendly Hands Food Bank has served individuals and families facing food insecurity across Northwestern Connecticut. In 2025, FHFB was awarded funding from the State of Connecticut to purchase a new facility that could expand beyond food assistance and offer meaningful community support services. As part of that vision, FHFB chose to honor and prioritize veterans by creating a dedicated hospitality room — because we owe our freedom to those who served our country.
Every aspect of the Veterans Hospitality Room is funded entirely through private donations separate from food bank operations, allowing these services and amenities to remain completely free for Connecticut veterans.
Event Space Rentals
In addition to serving veterans, the facility also features a spacious event space available for rental to outside groups. The room is ideal for community meetings, gatherings, presentations, and private events. Rental proceeds help support the continued operation and upkeep of the Veterans Hospitality Room and its free services for Connecticut veterans.

A Space Built for Community
The Veterans Hospitality Room offers a warm, welcoming environment where Connecticut veterans can gather, relax, and connect with others in the community. Designed to provide comfort, support, and fellowship, the space includes:
- Complimentary snacks and refreshments
- Free laundry service
- Shower facilities
- Spacious lounge and gathering areas
- 75” screen television
- Games and recreational activities
- Monthly catered luncheons
- Guest speakers and community events
- Social services and support resources
Throughout the year, veterans are invited to attend luncheons, educational presentations, social gatherings, and special events hosted within the hospitality room. Whether stopping in for a cup of coffee, connecting with fellow veterans, or attending an event, this space was created to foster dignity, comfort, and community.

Monday: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Wednesday: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Friday: 9:00 am - 12 noon
